August 2nd & 3rd 2008 - Chiltern Open Air Museum

The Siege Group had never been to this site before but as you drove in you knew it was going to be a good one.  It is a museum that collects old buildings of cultural significance that are going to be demolished and takes them down and rebuilds them in the museum.  They have a lovely village feel to their setup with a good village green, a chapel, a bakehouse, a forge and various houses all from assorted times.  For this show we were set up in the tents as usual.

Once again Dai was in dragon and fire iron mode and we did make a couple of sales which always help to boost the morale.  Morale was in need of a boost for this weekend as sadly the weather decided to be wet and a bit windy which as always put s a bit of a damper on things.  However, due to some fancy wor with a piece of cloth, leather and string, we kept the touch hole of the cannon dry so kept the public entertained with a few loud bangs.  As public were very scarce the plan for arena events was pretty much ignored and people got personalised demonstrations as they arrived.  It saved us from displaying to no one and the public were very impressed that we would do a cannon or musket display for just one or two of them.

So again, despite the weather, we were happy and so were the public and the event organiser at the site.  In fact she was so pleased she wants to book the group again for next year and would like us to do as much as we can in the buildings, which opens up a huge range of things that we can do, especially as Greg has now taken over the cooking he is planning ideas for the bakehouse already.

As the last show of the season for this group there was a bit of a conspiracy on the Sunday - it was our last chance to shoot Sam, even though there was no death planned for him that day.  So a scenario (plot) was hatched withou him knowing and at a suitable point in the afternoon he was taken completely by surprise and dragged off by the soldiers and executed for illegal gambling.  Good old Sam took it very well and did his last dramatic death of the year, somehow managing to avoid landing in all the sheep poo that was liberally scattered around the field.
