Danebury Hill Fort - 27th to 29th April 2007

The weather was beautiful and the site is fantastic. If you want a good view for miles around this is the place to be, it is quite obvious why a fort was built here and was occupied for a number of centuries. We were not allowed to set up the forge inside the fort but were just outside and any visitors to the fort were directed to us by the other chaps who were holding Celtic Games inside. That was assuming that visitors hadn’t already tripped over us or, as on Sunday morning, smelt the bacon cooking as they walked up the hill.

We had some excellent questions from the various visitors, including a bunch of archaeology students who were taking themselves on a tour of the area and we caused some confusion for a few dogs who didn’t quite know what to make of these strange people making peculiar noises on their walking route.

All in all an excellent weekend, we got some work done, introduced a fellow reenactor to the fun that can be had when blacksmithing and quite a few more found out that working the cylinder bellows is jolly hard work!

Just in case the very kind chap in Andover who made us a cup of tea whilst we were waiting for the AA to arrive is reading – a big thank you, it’s good to know there are a few gentlemen left in the world. Thanks also to the two lads who stopped with details of a 24 hour mobile welder they knew of. Just in case you were wondering, the AA were needed after the towbar on the trailer snapped. At least it meant that after the repair had been carried out at a garage we drove past Stonehenge which I had not seen before. It’s not as big as you is it?
