Rockingham Castle Mayday Bank Holiday Weekend

The other main job was to get our big double acting bellows put together and working. Dai has been working on these bellows as his winter project and all the bits were there they just needed putting together so that was what we did. Tacking the leather in place took quite some time and even before we had got it fully clued and tacked down we were getting quite some air through it. By mid morning on the Bank Holiday Monday we had the forge going and even without being fully sealed we were getting plenty of air into the fire and plenty of heat. So to celebrate the first use of the bellows Dai made a spearhead.

Unfortunately we had completely forgotten to check the batteries in the camera so we don’t have any pictures taken at Rockingham, but pictures of these bellows will follow in the next week hopefully.

The tent held out in a range of weathers, we had sunshine, gales and rain, sometimes all at the same time sometimes individually but the tent coped with it very well. It didn’t blow over and we didn’t get wet so that is good enough for us! The extension for the tent didn’t go up as the weather looked a bit dodgy when we got there so we left it as it has yet to be waterproofed. This weekend we will be at home in the forge so we will be able to get the extension up then and get it waterproofed so it is all ready to go for Margam Park at the May Bank Holiday weekend.
